RtG has partnered with USAID/OTI Ethiopia Support Program to launch the
"Art as a Path to Healing through Visual Art Competition" in Tigray regional state.
The initiative brings together 61 contestants from Mekelle town to promote healing
and peace through art.
Art plays a vital role in trauma healing, providing a creative
outlet for individuals to express and process their emotions in a non-verbal and
symbolic manner. This initiative builds upon the success of a previous event called
"Advocating Peace through Art," which spread artistic peace messages through visual
art and Forum Theater.
The current initiative aims to engage participants from diverse
backgrounds in Mekelle town, fostering inclusivity and promoting peace, resilience, and
healing. The contestants received training in basic art skills and trauma-informed healing
before conceptualizing and creating their art pieces. The art pieces were evaluated based on
their concept and positive impact on the community. The selected art messages were shared
through various media platforms and exhibited to the general public. This initiative showcases
the transformative power of visual art in post-conflict communities.
